The Recording Academy announced the nominees for the 2021 Grammy Awards and many in the music industry are already making claims about who got snubbed. Quality Control CEO Pee Thomas called out the academy for not recognizing Lil Baby‘s album and Nicki Minaj recalled losing the Best New Artist award to Bon Iver despite hitting major milestones that year.
Wiz Khalifa took to Twitter to recall his Grammy snub moment and encouraged current artists to continue their hard work.
When one fan responded and questioned how Cardi B has a Grammy and not Nicki Minaj, Wiz responded by writing, “Most self-made artists have this problem.”
Cardi B felt insulted by the tweet and responded by posting a screenshot of an Instagram DM sent to her from Wiz Khalifa in 2016. In the DM, Wiz expressed his admiration for her and congratulated her on the progress she had made up to that point.
