A grieving father allegedly attacked the man accused of killing his teenage son inside a courthouse in Charlotte, creating a dramatic and emotional scene that was captured on video and has since gone viral.
The incident occurred Thursday at the Mecklenburg County Courthouse and involved 47-year-old Shaheem Snype and 21-year-old Marion McKnight, who is facing charges in connection with the fatal shooting of Snype’s 16-year-old son, Jamariyae Dixon.
The confrontation has sparked widespread discussion about grief, justice, and courtroom security.
McKnight was previously released on a $100,000 bond for the murder charge, which Dixon’s family said never should have happened. That release led to the face-to-face courthouse meeting before a bond hearing. Lynnette Dixon, Jamariyae’s mother, wasn’t there when the fight happened but saw the video.
“My face smiled,” she said. “I smiled. That was the first time I had a real smile since my son been gone.”
McKnight went to the hospital after the attack and Snype was charged with misdemeanor assault. Dixon said she’s proud of him, although she still misses everything about her son, who was a football player and honor student.
