New details reveal that inmate John Turscak allegedly stabbed Chauvin 22 times in the prison’s library using a makeshift knife before officers intervened. Prosecutors claim Turscak told officers he would have killed Chauvin if they hadn’t intervened.
Turscak was charged with attempted murder on December 1, with reports suggesting he planned the attack for a month, choosing Black Friday as a nod to the Black Lives Matter movement. Chauvin’s mother, Carolyn Pawlenty, expressed frustration that she was not informed of her son’s stabbing, questioning how news agencies knew before her. She described her distress, stating, “I can’t even think what to say. I haven’t been to bed and made a path in my kitchen and living room floor by pacing.”
