Young Thug Denied Bond, Judge Cites Potential Danger to the Community and Witnesses

Young Thug has been denied bail once again after offering an extensive bond package.

On Thursday (June 2), Thugger appeared in Fulton County, Ga. court via closed-circuit video from the Cobby County Jail for the latest bond motion in his RICO case. During the lengthy hearing, which lasted over four hours and was streamed via 11Alive News, Young Thug’s lawyer Brian Steel laid out a number of stipulations the rapper would have adhered to if given a bond. Steel was offering to have Thug put under 24-hour home monitoring, both electronically and in person, with 24 off-duty police officers who have signed on to watch the rapper through a third-party security firm. He also offered to have the interior and exterior of Thug’s home monitored by closed-circuit TV.

Any visitor who came to the home would been subject to search. No electronics or internet would have been allowed in the home as well, though Thug’s lawyer said he wanted to build a studio in the residence for YT to work. Thug would also have had to undergo consistent drug testing. The total for all of these accommodations would have reportedly cost Young Thug approximately $1 million out of pocket, according to his lawyer.

300 Entertainment cofounder Kevin Liles also took the stand and emotionally testified on Thug’s character during the hearing. The misty-eyed Liles spoke of Thug as if the rapper were his own child. The music industry veteran even agreed to cosign the rapper’s bond, personally and with the backing of his company.

The prosecution in the case pushed for Young Thug to be detained until his trial. They cited Thug’s ability to flee and also noted witnesses were reportedly being threatened, though not directly by Young Thug. The prosecution also claimed Thug has been on the phone in jail requesting drugs in order to try and detox, presumably so he doesn’t have to go cold turkey. Many of the crimes Thug is accused of being involved in the District Attorney’s 88-page indictment were also mentioned.

Gunna Reportedly Denied Bond On RICO Charges

Young Thug and Gunna were denied bail following their arrests on racketeering charges.

On Wednesday (May 11), both Young Thug and Gunna’s requests for bond were rejected during their hearings before a judge, according to 11Alive. Both rappers are among the 28 people named in the Fulton County district attorney’s indictment for conspiring to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.

Gunna, born Sergio Kitchens, was hit with a RICO charge but is also accused of criminal street gang activity, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, hydrocodone and marijuana, and theft by receiving stolen property, according to the news outlet.

Meanwhile, Thug, born Jeffery Lamar Williams, is facing seven additional felony charges on drugs and weapons possession after police raided his home on Monday (May 9). According to an Atlanta Police Department’s booking document obtained by XXL, Thug’s felony charges include Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute; Possession Of Sawed-Off Shotgun, Sawed-Off Rifle, Machine Gun, dangerous Weapon, Or Silencer; and three separate charges of Unlawful For Person Employed By/Associated With Criminal Street Gang To Conduct/Participate In Criminal Activity.

During Thug’s Fulton County court appearance, Judge Robert Wolf agreed with the State’s argument against the bond. Additionally, Judge Wolf found the rapper was a flight risk, as well as a risk of interfering with the RICO case and a risk to committing more felonies if released. Thug’s attorney, Brian Steel, asked the judge to reconsider, considering his client’s ties to the Atlanta area. Steel also offered to take custody of the rapper’s passport and suggested that the court could order Thug to wear an ankle monitor and confine him to his home.

However, Judge Wolf declined Steel’s recommendations, citing the risk of Thug possibly committing additional felonies. “He has a lot of support outside the state of Georgia, it might be hard to get him back to the state,” he said.

Both Thug and Gunna will remain in custody at the Fulton County jail until further notice.

Young Thug Baby Mother Child Shot to Death Outside Bowling Alley

31-year-old LaKevia Jackson—the mother of one of Young Thug’s children—was shot and killed in Atlanta following an alleged argument at a bowling alley.

Police are searching for the man who fired on Jackson on Thursday at the Metro Fun Center. When authorities responded to reports of a shooting, Jackson was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

Per local CBS reporter Tori Cooper, LaKevia’s mother Sherina Jackson said her daughter was at the bowling alley for her best friend’s birthday. A fight over a bowling ball escalated, and the currently unidentified suspect waited for her in the parking lot for 20 minutes. Her mother added Thug and LaKevia’s 14-year-old son “isn’t doing well” upon hearing the news.

“This is truly an atrocity. A young lady has lost her life over a bowling ball. We talk about conflict-resolution time and time again and this is an escalated dispute so we will work this case through the night and we will find the person responsible,” Lt. Ralph Woolfolk said. “You know who you are so go ahead and turn yourself in.” Based on ballistic evidence and surveillance footage, police said they are close to making an arrest.
