According to reports, 60 people were shot in Chicago this past weekend. Nine people died as a result of the shootings, and four people were minors, with one of them being a toddler.
A 3-year-old toddler named Mekay James was reportedly struck in the back after someone pulled up behind the black truck his father was driving and fired off several shots according to police.
One incident found a 13-year-old girl being fatally shot, while two other teens were wounded in Austin on the West Side of Chicago. The 13-year-old was home around 8:30 p.m. when shots were fired, and she ended up being struck in the neck. The teenager was taken to the Stroger Hospital and was pronounced dead.
Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown spoke on the matter this past Sunday, saying, “Bullets don’t just tear apart the things they strike. Bullets also tear apart families. Bullets destroy neighborhoods, and they ruin any sense of safety in a community.”
