Mississippi rapper Yungen Gunnin was convicted of second-degree murder and felony possession of a weapon last week after a shooting that took place in December 2018.
Yungen Gunnin, whose real name is Jordan Johnson, was arrested on December 15, 2018, for the murder of 23-year-old Da’John Mitchell. The rapper was performing at a Louisiana nightclub when the prosecution claims he shot Mitchell.
During Yungen Gunnin’s performance at Suga Shak, Mitchell allegedly bumped into a member of the rapper’s crew and caused a shootout. Yungen Gunnin reportedly drew a .380 pistol and shot Mitchell in the back and four more times after the victim fell to the floor.
“It was a senseless crime,” said District Attorney Brad Burget. “Either because Mr. Mitchell bumped Johnson or because of Mr. Johnson’s vanity he decided to shoot. There is no justification to take someone’s life over purported or perceived insults.”
The 23-year-old artist was arrested hours later at his Mississippi apartment after law enforcement spotted his rental car driving across the Mississippi River Bridge. Yungen Gunnin previously pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated assault for his role in a 2014 shooting and was released on probation months before the shooting.
Miami Mayor Francis Suarez and interim Police Chief Manuel Morales announced on Thursday that detectives were interrogating a suspect in two murders and attempted murder.
Suarez and Morales said Willy Maceo is a suspect in two shootings on Tuesday — including a man who remains hospitalized after he was shot in the head at 400 SW 2nd Ave., in Wynwood — and a man who died after he was shot near the intersection of Miami Ave and 21st Street
Maceo, 25, is also a suspect in a fatal stabbing on Oct. 16, 2021. He is a real estate agent. State records show he obtained his real estate license on June 13, 2018, and reported he lives in Miami-Dade County’s Kendale Lakes neighborhood.
Officers arrested him for trespassing about 1:30 a.m. on Thursday at 445 NW 4th St., according to the arrest form. Maceo isn’t facing felony charges yet, but Morales said there is plenty of evidence and it’s only a matter of time before he does.
Morales described Maceo as a “suspected serial killer.” He also said it’s likely Maceo has targeted other homeless people in the city.
“This tragic news cuts to the heart of our community,” Ronald L. Book, chair of the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust said in a statement. “No one should be the victim of gun violence let alone our most vulnerable, those experiencing homelessness. We stand ready to work with City of Miami Police Department in any way necessary to help solve this senseless crime.”
A Florida man was found with a package of drugs wrapped around his penis says the drugs did not belong to him.
Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office had stopped Patrick Florence stopped the man while he was driving at 4 am as he was driving without lights.
When executing a traffic stop, Deputies say they found a weapon under the passenger seat and several drugs, including cocaine and on his person.
According to WFLA, he has a “package wrapped around his penis,” according to the report but that they weren’t his.
Florence was arrested on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of cocaine.
He was booked into the Pinellas County jail under a $24,000 bond.
Florence was first arrested in March that year by the St. Petersburg Police on four charges, including auto theft, possession of cocaine, and obstructing arrest. Since then, he has been arrested 25 times.
Kim Potter was found guilty of both manslaughter charges Thursday after fatally shooting Daunte Wright during a traffic stop on April 11, 2021.
The ex-Minnesota officer pleaded not guilty to the first and second-degree manslaughter charges. During her testimony, the 49-year-old apologized and claimed it was not her intention to hurt anybody during the deadly incident. She argued that she was “yelling ‘Taser, Taser, Taser,’ and nothing happened, and then he told me I shot him.”
Potter was arrested and hit with manslaughter charges shortly after her and the police chief resigned from the Brooklyn Center Police Department. Her arrest occurred after three nights of protests over the killing. The 26-year vet was training other officers when Daunte Wright was pulled over for expired registration on his car and an air freshener hanging from his rearview mirror.
Officers attempted to arrest him after discovering he had a warrant out for his arrest. After resisting and getting back into his car, Potter warned that she would tase him and shouted “Taser!” three times before firing her gun and killing him with a single shot to the chest.
Jurors deliberated for about 27 hours over the course of four days before reaching their verdict. The maximum penalty for first-degree manslaughter is 15 years in prison and/or a $30,000 fine. Due to Potter having a clean criminal history, Minnesota sentencing guidelines recommend a sentence between 6 and 8.5 years in prison.
However, the prosecution is seeking a more severe sentence. Prosecutors argued in October that Potter abused her position of authority and caused “greater-than-normal danger to the safety of other people.” If the judge sides with the prosecution, Potter will receive a longer sentence, but not more than the legal maximum.
Kim Potter will remain in custody until she is sentenced in February 2022.
Trey Songz has been hit with his second sexual assault in two months. This time around it implicates fellow musician, Diddy.
Legal documents obtained from the legal claim alleges that the victim, Jauhara Jefferies, met Trey Songz at Diddy’s house during his New Year’s Eve party on Star Island, and afterward, the R&B singer invited her to hang out with him at the VIP section of his party at E11EVEN nightclub in Miami. According to the legal documents, the Grammy Nominated singer “sexually violated her with his fingers” while she was on the sofa.
The suit claims that once Jauhara Jeffries and her friends made it back to Trey Songz’s vehicle after they finished clubbing, the singer began to take his shirt off. At that point, she began to record the incident out of fear for her safety. When the singer tried to snatch the phone from her hands, she refused. So, in response, Trey Songz instructed his driver to halt his vehicle so that he could forcibly remove Jeffries from his presence. Upon shoving her out of his vehicle, Jauhara Jefferies claims that Trey Songz threw water in her face.
Jauhara Jefferies is seeking more than $20 million in damages for medical expenses, lost wages, and emotional distress. She has named Trey Songz, Diddy, and E11EVEN in her lawsuit.
Diddy was not present during this physical altercation and his representatives have declined to comment. A representative for Trey Songz has denied the allegations but refused to issue a statement. E11EVEN is seeking to be removed from the lawsuit.
