New Orleans rapper Young Greatness was fatally shot outside a Waffle House in his hometown early Monday morning. He was 34. New Orleans police confirmed to CBS affiliate WWL-TV that the shooting took place at approximately 1:35 a.m.
The rapper was best known for the 2015 single “Moolah.” The song was on Billboard Hot 100 and Jones performed the single on the “Late Show with Stephen Colbert” in 2016. After he released “Moolah,” Jones got signed with New Orleans record label Cash Money.
Jones’ friend and fellow rapper P Town Moe told WWL-TV that the killing was a shock, saying, “You wouldn’t expect that coming happening with him. Dude wasn’t into nothing but his music and his daughter … Wasn’t into nothing else man.”
Jones’ car was also stolen from the scene. According to a preliminary police report, New Orleans police officers are looking for two suspects.
Police were on the scene gathering evidence and information to identify a suspect and motive.

Nearly one month after his murder, the Broward County grand jury has indicted four men in the fatal shooting of XXXTentacion.
The 20-year-old rapper was leaving a Deerfield Beach motorcycle dealership on June 18 when his BMW was blocked by an SUV. Two gunmen jumped out, robbed him, and shot him in broad daylight, where he died from multiple gunshots, according to authorities.

The man arrested for allegedly gunning down rapper XXXTentacionwrote a threatening post on Facebook two days after the shooting.
“Don’t piss me off u will never know wats next,” wrote Dedrick Devonshay Williams on his apparent Facebook page, under the name Chucky Williams.
The message, posted on Wednesday, was accompanied by a picture of the 22-year-old posing in front of a white car and showing off a hefty gold bracelet.
Dedrick D. Williams, 22, was arrested by Broward County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday on murder charges. He was taken into custody shortly before 7 p.m. in Pompano Beach.
Cops said two men ran down on Onfroy on Monday, as he sat in the driver’s seat of his BMW, outside a motorcycle dealership in Florida — and made off with the rapper’s Louis Vuitton bag.

Perhaps the most reliable account of the homicide comes from an eyewitness, who was in the area getting his Jet Ski repaired when he noticed X’s iconic blue pigtails. The witness and a friend approached the rapper, and conversed while he was browsing dirt bikes.
Rapper XXXTentaction ‘s mom claims someone has been arrested after he was shot dead in a terrifying daylight attack.
The rapper, whose real name was Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, was killed on Monday as two masked men gunned him down while he was sitting in his car in Florida .
Now a video has surfaced online, which reportedly shows the star’s mother telling a crowd of people that someone has been arrested.
The 20-year-old had just left a motorcycle dealership when he was approached by the masked assailants.
Police immediately launched a manhunt. Officers stated they were hunting for “black males wearing hoodies.” They also said that the “shooter was wearing a red mask”.
The 20-year-old rising star – real name Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy – was pronounced dead on Monday evening at a Fort Lauderdale hospital, the sheriff’s office said. He was gunned down at a Deerfield Beach motorcycle dealership.
According to TMZ, police radio described the suspects in the shooting as two black males wearing hoodies, with the shooter wearing a red mask. Witnesses reportedly told police a Louis Vuitton bag was taken from Onfroy’s vehicle.
Both suspects fled in a dark-coloured SUV, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Two rappers, Soldier Kidd and Soldier JoJo, were forced to deny any involvement in Onfroy’s death after social media posts showed them posing with a red mask and picking up food from a takeaway close to the murder scene.
Also, on Instagram Live, Soldier Kidd said he was at his house “all day, popping Xanax and s*** like that”.
Soldier Jojo posted a video to the social media platform responding to allegations over any involvement. “We respect everybody, straight up. We ain’t with none of that s*** man, I respect that man for who he is, and RIP to that man.”
XXXTentacion had been at RIVA Motorsports, sheriff’s public information officer Keyla Concepcion said. He was in a black BMW i8 and preparing to leave before 4pm when two armed suspects approached him.
At least one of them fired, and then both suspects fled the scene in a dark SUV, Ms Concepcion said.
No arrests have been made.
Stephanie Martinez, a 29-year-old mother who lives in the neighborhood, was with her children when she heard three shots. She drove to the end of the street and saw the rapper’s body in the car.
“He has his mouth open and his hand out. Two people went over and checked his pulse,” said Ms Martinez, who also saw blood. “It’s just weird because he should’ve had security and stuff with him.”
